Research

Virginia Tech’s urban forestry research program works to find solutions to real world problems in urban sustainability through applied research in urban forest ecology and management. We seek to have the broadest impact possible in our work by both publishing in peer-reviewed journals as well as translating our research results into useable products and tools for urban foresters and related professionals. Focus areas include urban soils, stormwater mitigation, urban forest inventory and assessment, tree growth and establishment and urban wastewood utilization.
